Why go at night
The Bund is one of China's most recognizable night views. From the west bank of the Huangpu River, visitors can see the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, and the modern Lujiazui skyline reflected across the water.
Best time to arrive
Arrive before full darkness if you want photos with a blue sky behind the buildings. After full darkness, the skyline becomes brighter but the promenade also becomes busier.
Simple walking route
Start near East Nanjing Road, walk south along the Bund promenade, and pause at open sections where river traffic creates reflections. If you want a longer evening, cross to Lujiazui for closer views of the towers.
Photo notes
Use the river as foreground, keep some historic Bund buildings in the frame, and wait for cruise boats to add light trails. A small tripod may be useful, but keep it compact in crowded sections.
Travel notes
The route is easy for first-time visitors because metro access is close and the promenade is straightforward. Check weather and visibility before planning a skyline-focused evening.
Before you go
For a richer evening, combine one long skyline view from the Bund with one closer look from Lujiazui. Check visibility, wind, and riverfront crowd levels before committing to a photo-focused night.
What to verify locally
Building lights, promenade access, cruise traffic, and temporary crowd-control routes can change. Treat this guide as planning context and confirm any time-sensitive details on the day of travel.
